Disequilibria, Dizziness & Vertigo Treatment
The difference between disequilibria, dizziness and vertigo is often confusing to patients and sometimes difficult to clinically distinguish.
Officially:
- Disequilibria refers to a sense of imbalance or unsteadiness, particularly when walking or standing. Often patients report a sensation of feeling unstable, wobbly, off-balance, unsteady, “like on-a-boat”, or not feeling “grounded”. It does not involve the sensation of spinning
- Dizziness is a broader term that describes a range of sensations, including lightheadedness, faintness, or a general feeling of disorientation. Often patients report feeling faint, a sense of moving or spinning spinning inside one’s head (not to be confused with the external spinning sensation of vertigo), or lightheadedness
- Vertigo is a specific type of dizziness characterized by an illusion of movement or spinning, either of oneself or the surrounding environment, when there is no actual physical movement occurring
When the symptoms of disequilibrium, dizziness and/or vertigo are caused by visual-vestibular mismatch, OpticNeuro Lens Therapy may be an effective solution.
